The Elephant (or in Thai called Chang) has been a cultural icon of Thailand since ancient days. Elephant have been used to assist in the construction of temples and to help clear forests and carry timbers. Throughout the Thai history, the Kings of Siam used elephants to ride into battles and the more elephants a king had (especially white elephants), the more status and power he upheld. White elephants are auspicious because of the special spiritual significance with its association with Buddhist and Hindu beliefs.
